Management of existing assets is critical to maximizing potential. In many cases it is not possible for expansions of roadways. And in these cases, the existing road can be better utilized through various policy methods and the introduction of technologies.
IAC is at the forefront of analysis in these areas. IAC attends relevant transportation conferences and events such as the annual ITS World Congress. And, IAC is a member of ITS America. IAC researchers are also involved in transportation-related groups and committees in the Washington, DC area, such as The Road Gang and the Surface Commission meetings.
Areas of focus include:
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- IAC has extensive experience in ITS developments in the U.S. and internationally. IAC has analyzed new ITS technologies, research, and deployment—including the integration of data and infrastructure. ITS researches technical, regulatory, and institutional aspects of ITS, such as data collection, processing, and dissemination
- New technologies, such as Market-Ready Technologies and Innovations (T&Is) and the Highways for Life (HfL) program
- Road Pricing Techniques, including Toll Roads, High-Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes, Truck-Only Lanes, Managed Lanes, FAIR Lanes, GPS mileage-based pricing, Cordon Pricing, and other congestion pricing methods
