Mr. Johnson directed NRC licensing and inspection activities through the Reactor Oversight Program at all nuclear power reactor facilities in the U.S. He took leadership at the NRC for renewal of operating licenses, licensing of advanced nuclear reactors and risk-informed regulations and served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation until 2003. He has subsequently served on numerous oversight Boards and Committees for Department of Energy M&O contractors. He has also presented courses on regulatory approaches, based on his broad experience, for Eastern and Western European regulators and utilities. He has received the Presidential Meritorious Rank Achievement Award and holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Virginia. He served for eight years as a Nuclear-Trained Officer in the United States Navy.
